Euro Day 2
Croatia beat Austria 1-0
In similar fashion to the Switzerland vs. Czech Republic game, the team that dominated the play did not get the win.
In the 4th minute of the game a questionable penalty inside the box was called against Rene Aufhauser of Austria which gave Croatia a penalty kick. Luka Modric then smoothly put the ball away right down the middle of the net.
After the first few minutes Austria settled down and really controlled the play for the rest of the game. Croatia was unable to create any more real chances for themselves and had to focus on defending the relentless Austrian attack.
Croatia did what they had to do to win, but they will really have to play better if they are going to be a contender for the Euro title.
Man of the Match- Ivica Olic (Croatia)
Germany defeat Poland 2-0
A pair of goals by Bayern Munich's Lukas Podolski led Germany to a comfortable 2-0 win over Poland.
Podolski scored in the 20th minute off a pass from Bayern teammate Miroslav Klose.
Podolski scored again in the 72nd minute off a Bastian Schweinsteiger steal. Podolski deserved both goals, as he seemed to be the best player on the field the entire game.
Poland didn't look bad, they had more possession then Germany, and had more shots, but the organization of the German side proved to be too much.
Germany looks like the contender I expected them to be, while Poland played good enough that they will have a good chance to beat both Austria and Croatia.
