More Trouble for Liverpool

Liverpool cannot catch a break. Fernando Torres just returned from injury to help Liverpool win, but now the news is that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be out of action for 3 weeks with a hamstring injury.

Gerrard tore the hamstring in Liverpool's 1-0 loss to Everton on Wednesday.

This news means that Gerrard will not be available for England's friendly against Spain on February 11th (I see a callup for Beckham) nor in all probability will Gerrard be available to play against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Some people like coach Rafa Benitez are blaming the injury on the fan and ownership pressure for Gerrard to play in every game. While this might not be entirely true, it is obvious that the pressure is there.

This injury coupled with the selling of Robbie Keane could mean a significant reduction in offensive productivity. Players like Torres and Dirk Kuyt will now have to step up in order to keep Liverpool's Premier League and Champions League hopes alive.
